Froedtert ThedaCare asks: For urgent care physician/APP incentive models, is LOS the most meaningful operational measure, or have you found other metrics that better reflect high-quality, efficient care, teaching/mentorship, and overall clinical contribution? Current state: our urgent care physician incentive structure includes productivity, quality, access, patient experience metrics and LOS as an operational metric.

UW Health Urgent Care utilizes very similar metrics at this time, however we are reviewing other options. Currently we utilize patients/hour, patient experience scores and comments, community/engagement (meetings attended, leading QI projects, assisting with research/data, etc), LOS, antibiotic stewardship. We are working on developing other KPIs and are interested in what others have found for operational metrics or other measures.

For our UC we do use cycle time, which might be the same or similar to the LOS metric. We also use room utilization to assess capacity. Finally, we know the OnMyWay system from EPIC and can measure scheduling efficiency and utilization. None of these measures are tied to compensation.
